This what your fridge should look like |
Taking out all things may seem a bit sever. I understand. You’re not supposed to deny yourself of any food, as it is believed that you will only crave it more. This can be true.
Depending on the severity of your situation, the more drastic measures you must employ. If you don’t have the “junk foods” hanging around calling out to you, you don’t have the choice to eat them.
Do yourself a favor, purge your fridge, cabinets, and pantries free of your comfort foods. Don’t eat them or eat “through them.” Throw them away and replace them with healthy, nutrient dense foods. When you get hungry, you will have to choose a healthier snack. At first, you may not feel satisfied. You still may crave that chocolate, ice-cream, or whatever it may be. With time though, you learn new tastes and new cravings. Cravings for good food!
Here are some tips for food alternatives:
- Try low-fat, low sugar yogurt. Mix it with fruit like strawberries or blueberries. These make great sweet satisfiers.
- If you like salty foods, try a handful of lightly salted nuts.
- For you chocolate lovers, try lightly coated dark chocolate almonds.
- Cheese lovers. Try cottage cheese with a teaspoon of olive oil and oregeno. Low-fat or fat free string cheese can also work.
Additional Tips:
- Make a shopping list. Knowing what you’re going to purchase before going to the store is ideal to prevent impulse buying.
- Shop the perimeter. Avoid the middle of the store like a plague if you can. It’s in these aisles that you get into trouble. Foods that come in a cardboard box or plastic wrapper is not really food.
