Client of the Month - October 2012 - Tammy Rajaniemi

Why do you like Fitness Together?
For many reasons, really.  From walking in the door and hearing everyone’s cheer of “hello”, to how you can walk in kind of down from a tough day or two and immediately feel better.  All of the trainers get to know you, and concentrate on you while you are there, making sure they have your best interests and your goals in mind.  This isn’t a place where you can just blend in and not be seen – if you have goals to achieve, all of the fantastic trainers will help hold you accountable.

Tell us some of the results you have achieved:
Over the last year I have run two 5Ks.  These are my first ever attempts at running, so I’m pretty happy to just get out there and do it. I’m not great at it and may never be fast, but I’m just trying to keep moving and improving each time.

I’m really happy about the body composition changes I’ve seen over the past year and a half. At my most recent assessment I had lost 3% body fat just in the past 6 weeks.  I’m not sure of the overall number at this point, but I do know at one point my results were 24 pounds of fat gone and 14 pounds of muscle gained, so a net of 10 pounds off. I’m trying to think that the scale doesn’t matter, so I concentrate on 24 pounds of fat gone.

Do you do PACK training?  Why do you like it?
I do 1 PACK training a week. I like the group atmosphere where we can push each other and cheer each other on, or even compete against each other. I love the one on one sessions, but also layering in a PACK a week allows for variety.

Why do you like one on one training?
I like one on one because it holds me accountable. It’s not just another day going to the gym where if I don’t show up no one will notice.  One on one is focused on me and I feel results after every work out.  After a workout, I feel it later that day and the next day too – it’s like a gift that keeps on giving, you won’t forget that you worked out J

Tell us about any hobbies you may have:
I like photography.  I have a couple of cameras and have gotten some good shots.  However, since moving back to Atlanta I haven’t taken much time to shoot much of anything. I have a relatively new bike that I need to ride a lot more.

What city and state are you from?
I’m from Keene, NH a small town in the southwest corner of the state.  Born there and lived there through high school. I went to the University of NH in Durham. Although UNH is on the other side of the state, it’s still only 2 hours away from Keene. Yes, NH is a pretty small state. I first came to Atlanta in 2005 but was only down here for 2 years before going back to NH for family reasons.  I came back down in 2011, so have been here again just about 1 1/2 years.

Tell us about your children and/or pets:
I have no children or pets. I do have a 7 year old niece, Lilly, who is in NH.  She’s the only child in our family so we all spoil her. I love being an aunt.

Who is your significant other?
I wish I knew!  Haha – that’s my way of saying I don’t have one, and I’m a single girl.

What is your favorite exercise?
It varies. If I’m having a tough week and need to let off steam, I’ll make a special request of Dennis for a little boxing. Jump rope seems to be a trainer’s favorite lately, and I like that.  And we all know that Planks are my least favorite.

What is your favorite healthy food?
Lately it’s been Greek Yogurt.  I love the recipe from the FT website for pumpkin greek yogurt. I’ve been talking it up and think I may have Katie hooked too.

What is your favorite “bad” food?
Potato chips – they are my down fall. I can avoid sweets without too much problem, but I have a really hard time limiting the salty junk.

What is your profession?  How Long?
I’m in the hospitality industry, and have been for 20+ years (since high school).  I’ve worked for Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) for the past 10 years.  Specifically, within IHG I am a part of the US Sales team as the Director of Operations & Planning.  We have a team of 65 folks who work with our 3500 franchisees to help them find the right guests and best pieces of business for their hotels.

What is your favorite movie?
Pretty Woman – Julie Roberts and Richard Gere are two of my favorite actors.  And I just love the story – it all works out in the end.

How did you discover Fitness Together?
I discovered Fitness Together while in NH. A friend of mine started going there and really liked it.  There wasn’t a studio close to where I lived but I traveled all the time for work, so I’d plan my travels to get close to FT to make sure I could work out 1 or 2 times a week.  When I decided to move back to Atlanta, one of the first things I did was look on the FT website to find potential studios.  Although there are multiple studios in the area, the fact that FT North Buckhead had an up-to-date website with relevant content, lots of pictures, and a lot going on made the difference for me.  They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but I did – I judged a studio by its website.  I decided to call here first, and after speaking with Kelly on the phone I knew this was going to be a great studio.  Then I came in and met the staff, and there was no question I had found the right place.
